LISA EAST (MFA) is a visual artist and photographer currently living in Tkaronto/Toronto. Honouring the subjective, her work explores meaning-making, memory, notions of healing and the metaphysical through image-making. Inspired by the cyclical nature of experience and environments, repetition — in theme, practice, composition and inquiry — is an important aspect of her work. A deep engagement with photographic processes, such as film, lumen printing, sequencing and assemblage/collage produce both intimate and ethereal works. As a photographer she takes a relaxed but technical approach. Using a blend of formal portraiture, documentary and editorial elements she engages with photography as an act of care and prioritizes empathetic collaboration with her clients, materials and environments.
